Portland Part One

Well, I've been home from Portland for over a week, so I guess it's time to get this blog thing started again.

I'm sure I'll have a lot to say once I get started, so lets just call this "part one" of the Portland entries...........

Ryan and I left town on Wednesday July 23rd, which just happened to be the same day John was flying home from Indiana, so we all rode to the airport together. I was glad to have even just that extra hour with him. We didn't get to see eachother as much as I would have liked while he was home :-(

Anyway, after we dropped John off at his gate, Ryan and I stopped to grab a bite to eat at the airport and then headed over to our gate. We still had about an hour to wait, so we sat at the bar inside the gates and had a couple drinks. I was drinking wine by 1:00 PM.....it was awesome!!!!

Our first flight took us into Dallas, and we were to fly to Portland from there. (It was much cheaper to fly all the way to Texas than a non-stop flight) The flight to Texas was beautiful and smooth. It only took a couple hours to get there, so it was a great flight.

It wasn't so great when we got to Dallas Fort Worth only to find NO flights on the schedule going to Portland. NONE. I held my composure and headed for the nearest info booth. They were able to tell us that our flight had been cancelled....great!!! Apparently Hurricaine Dolly prevented the plane that was supposed to take us to Portland from ever even making it into Dallas. So, on to the shot gun last minute plan............

There were two kids, probably around 13 and 16 who were also supposed to be on that same flight. I felt so sorry for them. Ryan and I heard them talking on a cell phone to their Mom in Portland in a panic. So, we asked them if they needed help getting a new flight. They were very happy to have us to follow. I felt so bad for them. They followed us to the American Airlines ticket booth where we were able to find one flight that would actually get us to Portland that night.....but we had to fly to Las Angeles. UUUGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately for the kids, Ryan and I got the last two seats heading to Portland that night. The airline put them up in a hotel and got someone to help get them there for the night. Poor kids!!!

I didn't want to fly to California. That wasn't in the plan. In fact, we already had plans to go out when we got into Portland. Those plans were shot now. We finally arrived in Portland at 11:30 PM, which was 2:30 AM our time. So, we had been hopping planes for over twelve hours by the time we got there. I was exhausted!!!!

Jeff found us at the baggage claim. We were so happy to see him.....it made that twelve hours totally worth it!! The only bad thing was.......our bags never came around. Apparently, our luggage didn't make it on the same flight as we did. I took us nearly an hour to figure out for sure that our luggage was not there. I was freaking out inside, but I tried not to let it show too much. I didn't want to completely freak out unless it was really necessary. I figured it would be totally necessary only if our luggage never showed up...........

That sounds exhausting, I can not imagine being on a plane that long. I can't wait to read the rest.

Thanks for the ride!

Argh....lost baggage is a complete bummer....especially when you are at your destination.

I can deal with lost luggage arriving back home.

On the edge of my seat..what's next? What's next???

One of my friends, Shelley, used to work for a limo company that contracted with the airport. On the weekends she would deliver lost luggage all over Indiana - she did it over night and loved it! Just leave it on the porch or at the hotel and off she'd go to her next destination.

Tell us more..what happened? What happened next?
