Giving Thanks

With Thanksgiving having just passed, we have all been a little more aware of the things we are thankful for. I try to be thankful for something very day. It helps keep me sane and helps me keep my priorities straight. Along with all the things such as my family, friends, my home, my puppies, I have one very important thing to be thankful for today.

I hadn't mentioned this to anyone in the family, just because I didn't want anyone to worry. I felt like it would be better if I could just tell you all good news instead of telling you about the possobility of bad news, if that were the case. So before I get into this further, I'll say now that there is nothing to worry about, and everything is fine.

About a week or so ago, I found a lump in my left breast. It was tender to touch, and obviously abnormal. Not very big, but definately abnormal. It was hard to get the ball rolling with our vacation scheduled, and the holiday coming up, but the mammography girls managed to squeeze me in right before we left last week. I tried my best not to worry myself to death while we were on our trip, but I couldn't get the thought out of my head that this may be the last trip we'd be going on for awhile. When these things happen, your mind runs wild. I had it all planned out how I would manage my life and my relationship if and when I had to start being treated for cancer. Yeah, that's how I was thinking for a good majority of the trip. In fact, I even thought about what I would like to have in my obituary if necessary......I'm sorry, I know that sounds so pessamistic, but that's honestly what was going on in my mind.

When we got back on Tuesday, the radiologist who had looked at my mammo was concerned because it was abnormal and recommended that I have a breast ultrasound. Once again, I couldn't get in right away due to time restrictions on the techs, and my work schedule, so we finally did the ultrasound today. The lump is definately just a cyst, but it has a little calcification around it. That's what showed up abnormal on the mammo. It is not considered a simple cyst since it is calcified, but it's a cyst nonetheless. I don't care what kind of cyst it is, as long as it's not malignant. Basically, all this means for me now is that I have to have a follow up mammo in 6 months, and every six months until I'm 35. If nothing changes between now and then, I will get one once a year just like everyone else. If the cyst changes, or becomes larger or more tender, they may go in and drain it, which is a pretty common procedure. If it doesn't change or bother me, we do nothing.

So today, I am thankful that my prayers were answered, and I know the family all prays for eachother all the time, and even if you didn't know that's what you were praying for, God knew. He has answered this family's prayers more than once, and I feel very fortunate to be part of that equation.

Atlanta, GA

Holy cow....what a weekend!!!! I can't believe it's Friday again already. We were on the road to Atlanta this time last week. And oh my , did we have fun!!!!!

We got lucky enough to get involved in a pretty special occasion with the band we follow, Ekoostik Hookah. As some of you may remember, last year at about this time, I was freaking out because the lead singer had left the band. Fortunaltely for all us "Hookah heads," the original lead singer came back. His name is John Mullins, and he had been gone from the band since about 1994. What they did this weekend was re-record their very first album that included John, and they recorded a new CD and filmed for a DVD. It was all done at Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta, GA. I wasn't familiar with this place, butI was familiar with a lot of the artist that have recorded there. There were several gold records on the walls from artists that had recorded there such as Elton John, Usher, Outkast, Eric Clapton, and several others.

The whole atmosphere there was awesome. There was a lot of excitement in the air. And the studio was georgeous. We had free food and drinks all night both Friday and Saturday, and Ryan and I got involved in interviewing the band for the DVD. I have no idea if they will use any of the stuff that we asked, but it will be cool if they do!!!

We got to see lots of friends from Ohio and Indy that we only see at these shows. It's always great to catch up with the friends we don't see often enough. We also got to watch the Ohio State vs. Michigan game with the band on Saturday. They had reserved a theater room in the Hilton where we stayed so we could all watch the game together. Since most of these folks are from Ohio, it got pretty crazy in there because this was such a big game. Hookah even played the Ohio State fight song at the beginning of the show Saturday because they won...it was kinda funny.

Anyway, I won't bore you with too many pictures of the band....they would proably be the same to you guys as all the rest, but I'll post a few of us and our friends................

This is a picture of the room we all hung out in together before the shows both nights. This just shows a tiny corner of the room. We managed to squeeze all 150 people in there at one point in time.

This is another part of the "hang out room" It's also the couch where the guys sat while we interviewed them.

Here's our friend Keegan and his girlfriend, whose name I forget, and my sweet baby Ryan!!!

There's the cutest couple at the show!!!!!!

These are our friends Angie and Kim. Never a dull moment with these girls!!!!

This is Steph, Jenni and Keegan's girlfriend....still don't remember her name :-)

On Sunday, we left Atlanta and headed to Memphis TN where we went to Graceland. I've got lots of pictures from that part of the trip, but not enough time at the moment. That will have to be another blog....................

Fun in St Louis!!!

Well, I have no pictures to share yet because I forgot to buy a battery for my camera.....dang it!!! Hopefully some friends will e-mail me some pictures I'll be able to share later!!

Anyway, Ryan, our friend Brook, and I all took a trip to St Louis this past weekend for a surprise party for our friend Jeff. Jeff's 30th birthday is December 23rd, so he was clueless that his wife, Karen, was throwing him a party at all. That always makes it fun when the surprise works out!!

Jeff lived in Indiana for a few years when he was in high school, and that's how he and Ryan know eachother. He and his wife have become very good friends of mine also since Ryan introduced us a couple years ago. Karen works in an art studio as a glass blower, so she had the party in an art studio. It was awesome!! She got Jeff there by telling him they were just going to see a display of someone that she works with. Needless to say, he was totally shocked when he saw a bunch of hoosiers pouring out from behind a wall!!! (By the way, NEVER admit to being a "Hoosier" in St Loius......it's their term for dumbass)

Karen did such a great job with everything. She had posted pictures of Jeff all over the walls of the studio from the time he was a baby up until recently. Ryan was in a ton of them...it was hilarious. She also had some fancy appetizers, and free beer and wine. You all know how I feel about wine!!!! There was music, and a small fire on the porch of the studio with a huge sculpture around it, and it was just warm enough to still enjoy the fire.

Before we had to be at the studio, we had a couple hours to burn, so we went on the Anheiser Busch brewery tour. I got to pet the beautiful Clydesdales....Holy cow...those horses are HUGE!!!! We also ate at Schlafley's where I ate a bison burger...yummy!!!

After the party, we all stayed at Jeff and Karen's house for the night. We had a blast. I got to hang out with an old friend from high school that also knows Jeff, so that was fun. (Rafael Vega...Jen, I think you probably know him) It's weird becuase he lives in Chicago now, and the only time I ever see him is in St Louis. We all hung out an listened to music and played the pinball machine Karen just bought for Jeff.....yeah, I said pinball machine. They are such fun people...you never know what they'll come up with next!!!

So, another weekend has passed, and next weekend is the big one. We've been waiting for our trip to Atlanta for months now, and it's only a few days away....I can't wait. In fact, on a spur of the moment decision, we decided to take an extra day and stop in Tennessee on the way home and go to Graceland.....I'll have a new battery for my camera by the time we take that trip for sure!!!!

A few words for Yellow Cat

When Yellow Cat first came around,
He never really made a sound.
He stayed mostly in our yard.
Sometimes ventured, never far.

Just a little skinny boy
Just a stray without a toy.
No food to spare, not a speck,
No owners to help protect.

Today I left and saw him there,
Laying cold with matted hair.
I hope life's better where he is now
In Kitty Heaven with lots of chow.

All the catnip he can stand,
And Pounce treats given out by hand.
Scratching posts on every street,
And cars that stop right at your feet.

Now I say goodbye to you
There's nothing else that I can do.
You were sweet, little Yellow Cat,
I hope you now get big and fat.

Don't expect THIS in your re-gift bag.........

My "Chicken-Head" costume was such a success, that I think I might have to keep this re-gift.

I had no idea how much joy I'd get from the chicken hat, so I'm just warning the family.....I may not be able to part with it this year. Oh, but believe me, I've got some real gems for the re-gift exchange this year :-)
.........I don't think anything will beat the picture of Roberta or Andrea's bra!!!!!

Let's take a trip back to last year's re-gift exchange................Oh the memories!!!!

I also have a few other Christmas pics...might as well share now while I'm on the subject....

Hangin' out with my Ma

I'm really not looking forwward to this winter. Mom and I have been trying to get out and enjoy the days while it's still bearable. We went out to Northwest Park and took some pictures the other day. It was cold, but beautiful.

For some reason, these old tall bare trees always catch my eye. This one has a couple nests in it. It makes me wonder if the birds that lived there before have traveled to warmer places. I would if I could!!!

Doesn't my mom look happy here? It's so good to see her enjoying life.

Lovin' the fall sunsets......

There have been so many beautiful sunsets here lately. I finally saw one on an evening when I actually had my camera with me...........

Since I don't have kids............

Anyone who knows me knows that I consider my three mini doxies my kids. So, since they are my kids, they get to dress up for Halloween too....whether they like it or not.............

Jerry is always so calm.....he has no cares. He just hung out in his little Fankenstein costume like it was no big deal. Delilah and Franklin, on the other hand, didn't care for theirs much. Delilah didn't mind her princess cape, but the hat had to go. Franklin just stood there witha miserable look on his face like "OK, Mom, you got your pictures....will you take this thing off of me now?" He loved it!!!

I love Halloween!!!!!

Last Saturday was the big day for Haloween parties, so Ryan and I did it up right!!!!

I scrambled to find someone to come in and work a few hours for me Saturday night, because I had forgotten that it was almost Halloween!!! Where has his month gone???????

Anyway, I came up with this spiel about how they could get paid for four hours and just work for two because of the way our call system works. I had to throw in a few batting eyelashes and tales of how I would make it up to them, but I finally found someone, so I left work at 9:00 PM to start my adventures!!!

We had a couple friends come in from Indy to celebrate with us. It's always great to see our friends from out of town.......speaking of which, why didn't I see you on Saturday Trollimack????

We started out at a party thrown by one of the guys that works in the emergency room. I always like to see the people I work with out of the serious environment of the hospital. Especially in costume!!!! They actually loosen up quite a bit at those parties :-)

It was pretty fun, but the real fun started when we hit Bobby Blue's house out in West Middleton. Who would've ever thought that one of the best parties around was in OUR little town?!?!? Bobby lives in the old brick schoolhouse just a couple houses west of us. Most of you are probably familiar with it. In fact, I think maybe someone in our family went to school there...I'm not sure, but it seems like I've heard that somewhere before.

Bobby is an artist and musician. That's how he earns his living....so he has devoted the entire upstairs of that building into an art gallery and a recording studio. One end has a stage with a big soundboard (which our second cousin, Mark Mayfield was running) and the other end has his art studio....it's really cool what he's done to the place.

It was also a party for our friends Will and Amy who got married not long ago, so they were the dead bride and groom....very appropriate :-) Ryan and I won second place in the costume contest that we didn't even know was happening. We just heard our names announced from the stage and then got pushed up there by a bunch of people. I gave out little junk toys for my Halloween party for prizes.....Will and Amy hooked us up though!!! I was expecting a rubber rat or something, and instead, we got a $50.00 gift card for Simon Mall!!!! Yeah for us!!!

So, here are a few of the pictures....I have so many, it's hard to choose which ones to post, so I'm sorry if this gets too long and drawn out for everyone...... Clint was "Cardinal Sin".
This picture shows the stage a little in the background at Bobby Blue's house!! There were a couple different bands that played that night. There's a dance floor up there too, so Ryan and I had a great time dancing with everyone. It was so much fun!! I think I like Halloween better now than I did when I was a kid!!

Here is our second cousin, Mark Mayfield...it was weird seeing him there. I haven't seen him in several years. He and Michael used to play in a band together, so that's shows you how long it's been.

Ryan had no idea I was taking this picture. I was actually standing up on a chair taking pics of the crowd, and he was on the other side of the room. I'm not sure what he's doing here, but he was totally in character all night long. He even brought a bottle of Sake and was sharing it with everyone....it was hilarious. His costume is a Kabuki Samauri. The Kabuki is famous for their dramatic fighting styles, and also in the 17th century, mainly, the Kabuki did a lot of entertainment in Japan. In the Kabuki dramas, the men were the only ones to act. So, all the female characters were played by men...........

As you can see, our friend Brook put a lot of thought into his costume!!!

He even wrote "BOO" by his mouth...he should've won first place in that contest, dang it!!!!!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!!!!!

Sad new to pass on to all my Grateful Dead buddies........

http://phillesh.net/

Message from Phil on 10.26.2006

What do I have in common with Rudy Giuliani, John Kerry, Bob Dole, JoeTorre, Nelson Mandela, Sean Connery, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, EmperorAkihito of Japan, General Norman Schwarzkopf, Colin Powell, QuincyJones, Roger Moore, Sydney Poitier, and Robert De Niro?

Like them, and along with thousands of other men, I have been
diagnosed with prostate cancer. Since my liver transplant, my health has been monitored by a crack team of doctors; in the course of this program, I have periodic blood tests and clinic visits. At my last clinic, my doctor noticed that myPSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) levels had increased over the lastperiod. He recommended that I see a urologist, and a biopsy confirmedthe diagnosis. I have decided to have it removed in early December with da Vinci robotic surgery. Since we've caught it very early, and it's small and slow-growing, I fully expect to have a rapid and complete recovery.

I am feeling energetic as always, and all my scheduled appearanceswill occur as planned. As you know, I urge everyone to become an organ donor to help save lives. Now, I am also urging all men: speak to your doctor abouthaving periodic regular PSA screening for early detection of prostatecancer- you may save your own life.

-PHIL

As some of you may already know, Phil was the recipient of a liver transplant a few years ago. He has looked better and better every time I have seen him lately. The prognosis sounds good, but please keep him in you prayers.....................

Wal-Mart Woes

WoooooHoooo!!!!!

It is a fabulous Friday night in Kokomo, you know!!!! It's payday...and I'm headin' to Wal-Mart!!!

I can't wait to see all the women at Wal-Mart in spandex and oversized t-shirts. They'll probably have all twelve of their children with them. AND they won't have coats on. Their hair will be mangled and matted, and six of the twelve will definitely have something that resembles dirt around their mouths and all over their fingers. If I'm lucky, there may be a little color to it, so I can assume it came from that package of gummy bears that MOM just let them open in the aisle and eat all the way through the store. They might even leave a trail for me incase I get lonely and suddenly feel the need for twelve screaming children to comfort me. I'm sure the kids will ALL find something they just can't live without, and as they scream wildly while MOM pulls them away from it, I'll get to hear her loud mouth telling them how she and their daddy, and their uncle, and her grandpa are all going to beat them senseless when they get home......In all honesty, I wish she'd do it now, so I don't have to hear about it!!!!

I can't wait to see who pulls their cart out infront of me first, making me come to a complete hault while they meander out in front of me not even realizing I am there. These are the same people that pull out in front of us on the highways, and have no idea they just about had my hood up their ass. And to make it even better, they will definitely be talking on their cell phones. Probably to the person they're with, who happens to be blocking the other end of the aisle....now I'm stuck...and I think my head is going to explode from all the waves from their cell phones......wait, in fact, I think I can see that growth on the side of that lady's head now.....i'm sure it's radiation damage from her cell phone..............

I can't wait to see the greeter with his half smile/ half smirk. They always seem so unhappy considereing all the beautiful and glamorous people they get to encounter in a days time. I can't wait until the greeter looks at me funny like I should have something for them to put their little sticker on so I can return it or something......nope.....sorry buddy, you're just here simply to annoy me and make me talk as I walk into the wild world of Wal-Mart. Actaully, the only time I'm glad to see those people is on my way OUT!!!!!

Oh wait, I also can't wait to see the teenagers who aren't quite old enough to drive yet, and have nothing better to do than go hang out at Wal-Mart for the night!!! So, rather than have some family time at home, their stupendous parents will drop them off and let Wal-Mart babysit for the night. They might even walk in a big enough group I can't get around them with my cart....I may just have to clip a heel or something. They will all be in their black GOTH outfits, and they will probably be really annoyed when I walk past them and laugh.......I like those groups of kids who think they've got you intimidated just because there's more of them than there is of you. Oh they don't stand a chance if they're in my way at Wal-Mart....I'll take 'em out one heel at a time if I have to!!!

OH OH OH!!!!! I really can't wait for the husband who is out shopping for God only knows what reason. Maybe his wife is pulling a cruel joke on the rest of us. He'll block the soup aisle for twenty minutes trying to find a stupid can of Campbell's chicken and noodle soup. When he gets to the produce aisle....watch out....he doesn't even know what half this stuff is. Here comes the cell phone again. "Um, Honey.........what did you say those kumquats looked like again?????" Regardless of what he's saying, I'll feel the uncontrolable urge to pick up what he's looking for and clock him in the head with it.

Oh my......I might need a drink before I go...............

WHEN IS JENNY GONNA START HER BLOG???????

......MAYBE.......

NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

October Skies

Isn't October a beautiful month in Indiana?

I need to get busy with my camera before it's too late to catch the leaves. My yard is full of them. My big tree is almost bare.

Ryan and I are planning a trip to southern Indiana in two weeks, but I think a lot of the leaves will have already fallen by then. Regardless, we will be out with our cameras. We are going with a couple friends of ours. We are going to stop at the Oliver Winery and then go a little further south and stop at a couple more before stopping around Bedford for the night. Wes and Amber have never been to any other winery beside the Oliver, so I'm looking forward to showing some friends who also appreciate wine around our wine country. We have tons of beautiful wineries in Indiana.

While I was driving to work today, I had the song "Moondance" by Van Morrison in my head. It made me really look around and appreciate the beautiful day.............

MOONDANCE
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'neath the color of October skies.

And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heartstrings that play soft and low.

You know the nights magic, seems to whisper and hush,
You know the soft moonlight, seem to shine-In your blush
Can I just have one more moondance with you-my love?
Can I just make some more romance with you-my love?

Well I wanna make love to you tonight,
I can't wait till the morning has come
And I know now the time is just right,
and straight into my arms you will run.

And when you come my heart will be waiting,
to make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true dear,
There and then I will make you my own.

And everytime I touch you-you just tremble inside
then I know how much you want to want me that-
you cant hide
Can I just have one more moondance with you-my love?
Can I just make some more romance with you-my love?

Well it's a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night for making romance
'neath the color of October skies.

And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heartstrings that play soft and low.

You know the nights magic, seems to whisper and hush
You know the soft moonlight, seems to shine-In your blush
Can I just have one more moondance with you-my love?
Can I just make some more romance with you-my love?

One more moondance with you... in the moonlight
on a magic night......
in the moonlight
on a magic night
can I just have one more moondance with you- my love

Love My Country Drives

One of the things I love about living in the country is the fact that all the people are so friendly. When I'm out on my country drives I love it when another driver passes me and waves. Or you drive past someone walking their dog, or riding their horse, and they wave.

I remember asking my dad as a child, "Did you know them?" when he would wave at someone, and he'd say, "Nope, that's just whatcha do when you're in the country." That makes me smile :-)

One of my biggest pet peeves is when you give someone the right of way in a one lane area...like the bridge on Markland by the jail.....for all you Kokomo folks....and they don't wave. Or you get the right of way and wave at them, but they don't wave back. All I want is a little recognition. Am I really asking too much???

So yeah, that's one of my little thoughts for the day.....I'm gonna go find some nice country folks to wave to on my way home.........

Well, I think I'm finally done celebrating my birthday......
We had a great time at the Karaoke party at The HiMark last weekend. The party was also for my friend Cindy who's birthday is October 14th.

So here are a few pictures....I'll try to get descriptions close to the picture they belong to....you know how hard that is with this blog thing sometimes!!!!

There we are....the birthday girls!!!
We sang "Birthday by The Beatles...it seemed appropriate!!!

We even had a cake with question marks on it!!!

I was either singing The Tide is High by Blondie, or HELP! by The Beatles...not sure which.....

This is our friend Liz...she came up from Indy to celebrate with us!!!!

Oh yeah...we're shakin' the booties!!!!

Here's Clint and Shawn Kirby...my old roommates and bodyguards.....I miss them a ton!! And sweet little Monique...she sang some Van Morrison for me!!!!

This is Ryan and our good friend Dave. He and his wife Kelly came up from Indy too. They are good friends of our that we met through going to Ekoostik Hookah shows.

Here's Clint singin' his little heart out......

Shawn Kirby is such a good sport...he got suckered into singing some ridiculous songs that people entered his name for...what a great guy!!!

Dave and Kelly are so cute together....I just love them!!!!!

Ryan, Liz, and Matt all just decided to jump on stage with this poor woman and do some Beatles impersonations....Doesn't Matt do great Ringo?!?!?

Matt loves Ryan....I don't blame him :-)

Kelly at my house after the party.....my doggies love her!!! And so do I :-)

Dave passed out early...he had a long, long day!!!

The birthday girls...all partied out...ready for bed....... night night.............
