total solar eclipse

People gathered in the River Ganges in allabad, India to read Hindu tesxt to ward off evil spirits during the total solar eclipse.

These Lebanese students enjoyed the solar eclipse in Beruit!!

The solar eclipse that happened yesterday March 29th will be the last total eclipse until 2008.

These are just a few pictures I thought were cool from the eclipse that happened yesterday. Unfortunately, we couldn't see it on this side of the world.......what would we do without the internet?????

Graphic showing the path of a total eclipse of the sun which crossed four continents on March 29. The faithful said prayers, astronomers and thrill-seekers gazed skyward and watchers clapped in wonder as the moon turned day into night.

My dad was always intereseted in this type of thing, and I wish I would have taken the time to learn more myself.......I guess it's never too late to learn.

Brent is super into this stuff. He can build a telescope from scratch! If you want to really get Brent started on a conversation ask him about space stuff!

Of course I love the sky too...anything in the sky is interesting to me even though I'm not into the "science" part as much as I just like to look at it.

Do you remember laying on Dave and Mary Helen's deck boat looking up at the milky way and big dipper from the lake (as we cruised around singing Elvira at the top of our lungs!!)?

I also remember laying in lawn chairs out in our back yard with my mom looking up at the sky. So I guess this obsession I have came from my mom.

Actually, the "telescoping" part of it isn't so easy. The math involved is such a pain in the calculus....
Consider...
The Earth is revolving, somewhat slowly in relationship with everything around us, and also orbiting the Sun. And that the Sun and solar system are also orbiting within the galaxy means that the "pretty" orbits we see drawn for us all the time is like fantasy.
We look more like some gigantic spiral wine corkscrew that's bent in odd places. Actually, whe given the speed of our revolution, the orbit around the Sun, the velocity of the orbit around the galaxy, the galaxy's speed through the universe, and the speed of the universe as it races the other four or five universes, we're traveling about 479 miles per second.
Yeah. Just sittin there in that chair, staring at the screen, yer traveling faster than a speedin bullet. Heck! Maybe yer superwoman.
Eh?
